May 1st is Permaculture Day

Via Milkwood farm, Sunday May 1st is International Permaculture Day.

There’s a number of events happening around the country. Have a squizz at the PD page for more info. Have a look at some of the open gardens, perhaps find your local garden club or seed savers exchange. You might also like to have a read about the Permablitz concept.

Permaculture is about much more than having a garden or growing your own food. It’s a sustainable, integrated system that mimics an ecology. Housing, aquaponics, water management and much more is available for integration into a yard, garden or even farm.

This year May 1st coincides with Hallowe’en or Samhain in the southern hemisphere. As we’re hearing more and more about disasters, climate change and economic uncertainty, it’s a really appropriate time to think about transition from 17th century style kleptocracy to a sustainable, peaceful way of life.
