April 5th has been selected as a day to raise awareness of youth homelessness. YFoundations youth homelessness matters day launch.
More than 100,000 people sleep rough in Australia every night. Millions more are in situations of stress and uncertainty with respect to simply having a roof over their heads. Security and shelter is one of humanity’s most basic needs. It’s a tragedy that in one of the world’s most wealthy nations, so many human beings and families are crippled by this insecurity.
Successive governments have managed our economy in such a way that it requires millions of people to be exposed to poverty and uncertainty in order for share prices to remain high. This is not capitalism, it is cannibalism. Providing human beings with shelter and resources to live is not communism or socialism or extreme. How can we possibly have a healthy country and culture if so many people are excluded from participation and contribution?
Business is only one part of human life. A strong, cohesive community is a benefit to everyone including those in business. Without human community there can be no economy.
On April 5th, get along to the Oasis Centre in Surry Hills, Sydney or speak up about youth homelessness and #homelessnessisnotacrime.
