Further to the need for mental health services in Australia to be overhauled, or at the very least replaced, the ABC ran this story yesterday about a mother who killed her two sons.
Donna Fitchett called the murder of her two boys her “greatest act of love”, but in sentencing today Supreme Court Justice Elizabeth Curtain told her it was her “greatest act of betrayal”.
Someone who is ill enough to murder two little boys was in need of serious intervention long before it came to that. Jeff Kennett’s government sold off most of Victoria’s mental health system so that his good mate Ted Ballieu could profit from the sale of land and buildings.
This woman should be in a hospital, not a prison. Oops, there aren’t enough hospitals left. It ought to be Kennett and Ballieu who are in court charged as accessories to murder.
